 Technology Learning Center

Services offered at the Technology Learning Center:

• Small group or individual technology instruction
One of the purposes of the Learning Center is to provide faculty and staff with the technology training they need.  Training sessions are approached with the general goals of "helping the user be able to help themselves" and providing people with useful self-help resources, not simply solving problems with little or no explanation of what was done.

The Learning Center can accommodate groups of up to four people as well as one-on-one individual training sessions.  Sessions may be as general or specific as needed by the individuals; the Academic Technology Specialist will work with you to provide the right amount and level of training necessary.

Topics may include:
-implementing a course management system (eRacer and BlackBoard)

- the basics of using Windows XP, Mac OS X and our campus network
- using Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- possibilities, techniques and issues regarding the use of technology to enhance teaching and learning
- creating web sites with FrontPage
- scanning pictures or documents for use in websites or presentations
- digital video, audio and image editing
- CD-rom and DVD creation
- ...got other needs in mind? Just ask!

In addition to faculty and staff training, the Learning Center runs technology orientation sessions for new and transfer students at the beginning of fall and spring semesters.

• Self-paced training--reference and training materials available online or for checkout
The Learning Center features a growing library of computer-related books, "quick-reference" sheets and CD-roms that faculty and staff may borrow for technical reference or self-paced training purposes. There are also a number of online training resources available for individuals to use.

• Electronic media development resources available for use
Need to scan a photo, slide or an article?  Want to "capture" an image from a videotape to use in a PowerPoint slide show or on a web page?  Interested in adding video or audio clips to your website?  The Learning Center has the equipment and technical assistance available for you to accomplish these things and much more.

• Annual Edgewood "Technology Days"
Sponsored by the ITSO department, Technology Days take place every January and focus on a wide variety of instructional technology topics.
